Drone CheckUp
Privacy Policy
Effective: 4 October 2026 · updated: optional cloud AI model
Drone CheckUp is a tool for checking drone flight controllers and flight logs in the field. It is built by HandySoft Team (“we”). This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. In short: your data stays on your device. We do not run accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and we do not receive your data unless you send it to us yourself.
We do not collect your data
Drone CheckUp does not collect, store or process any user data on our side. All your data — sessions, logs, drones, settings and AI answers — is kept only on your own devices. We have no servers that receive it, no user accounts and no way to see it. The only exception is a message you choose to send us yourself (see “Data you send us”).
Data kept on your device
The app stores the following only on your phone or computer:
- diagnostic sessions, telemetry, flight logs (Blackbox, DataFlash) and connection recordings;
- flight-controller configuration backups;
- your list of drones and batteries;
- answers of the AI assistant, your ratings of them and chats with it;
- app settings, and a random identifier of the installation (it is created on the device and is not linked to you).
Telemetry can include the drone's GPS position, which the app shows on a map and keeps in logs. The app does not use the location of your phone.
AI assistant
By default the assistant runs a language model on your device. Your questions, the drone data it looks at and its answers are not sent to us or to any AI service. The models and the documentation pack are downloaded once (see below) and then work offline.
Optional: a cloud AI model with your own key
You can choose to have answers written by Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google) or Mistral (Mistral AI, EU) with an API key of your own (AI assistant → Cloud model). It is off until you turn it on and agree. When it is on:
- the app sends, directly from your device to the provider you chose, a short summary of the drone, session, log or configuration you ask about (drone name, firmware, settings, telemetry and log figures), documentation excerpts and your question; when the model asks for details, the results the device works out (for example statistics of a signal);
- not sent: GPS coordinates, serial numbers, the log files themselves;
- nothing goes through our servers and we receive none of it; the provider handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy, and you pay it for the requests;
- your API key is kept only on your device (the system's secure storage on phones) and is never included in backups;
- without internet, the model on your device answers instead.
What the app downloads, and from where
Downloads contain no personal data. As with any download, the server sees your IP address and what is requested.
- AI models — from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), when you choose to download one.
- Documentation pack and its catalog — from our site on Firebase Hosting by Google (drone-checkup.web.app).
- Map tiles — from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) when you open a map, which reveals the map area being shown. See the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
Backups you choose to make
- Google Drive. If you sign in with Google, the app saves backups to a “DroneCheckUp” folder in your own Google Drive. It asks only for access to files it creates itself (the
drive.filepermission) and cannot see your other files. We have no access to your Drive. You can sign out in the app at any time. - E-mail and files. Backups and reports can be sent by e-mail or shared as files; they go wherever you send them, through your own mail or sharing apps.
Data you send us
If you write to us, or use “Send to the developer” on an AI answer, we receive your e-mail address and what the message contains (for an AI answer: the question, the answer, the model and your comment). We use it only to reply and to improve the app, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Permissions
- Bluetooth — to connect to the flight controller through a Bluetooth module.
- Local network / Wi-Fi — to receive MAVLink telemetry from the drone.
- USB (Android, computers) — to connect to the flight controller by cable.
- Location (Android 11 and older only) — the system requires it for Bluetooth scanning; the app does not read your location.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone. There are no third-party analytics or advertising libraries in the app.
Deleting your data
Sessions, logs, configuration backups and the downloaded models can be deleted in the app; all of the app's data is deleted by uninstalling it. Old drone data can also be removed automatically after a backup (General settings → Data backup). Backups in your Google Drive or e-mail are yours to delete there.
Children
The app is a technical tool for drone pilots and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date. Features that would send data off the device (for example, team synchronisation or a cloud AI model) will be optional and described here before they are released.
